About a month ago we briefly discussed ASDs in my biology class. Some of what the teacher mentioned sounded familiar, so I started doing some research. Some of the things I read about seemed to fit perfectly while others didn't. I joined WP and I have been reading the forums. At the same time, I keep thinking everyone probably thinks they're "different". Then, a few days ago, I was having dinner with a close friend. We talked about friendship and she said she could see I was very socially awkward. She pointed out that my only close friends I have are people I've known since high school (I’m now a junior in college). I told her what I'd been thinking and she said it made sense. She said she knew a guy in high school with AS and we had a lot in common.

Reasons I think I might have it:
-I've always felt different. I remember having trouble finding friends as far back as preschool.
-As a child I was obsessed with a few very specific interests.
-I’ve always felt like I was "on the outside", never understood the rules of conversation, friendships, dating.
-I've always been a very picky eater, and the problem is usually the texture not the taste.
-I'm constantly fidgeting.
-I don't like loud noises.
-I have never been very coordinated.
-I wear basically the same outfit everyday: a plain colored t-shirt and jeans. I feel uncomfortable in anything else.
-In order to enjoy fiction, it needs to be plausible. I drive my family and friends crazy pointing out the factual errors on scifi tv shows.

Reasons I'm not sure:
-When I read about nonverbal communication, I seem to know what it means (but I'm not sure if I pick up on it in conversation).
-I can make eye contact without too much trouble.
-I need a routine to stay organized and on task, but I don’t “meltdown” if I break it. I like to “mix things up” every once in a while.

Obviously, I don’t expect to be diagnosed through a forum. I’m just hoping to get opinion from people who know more about AS than I do. It would certainly explain a lot.

Hello A-markz, welcome,

You can try and take some tests, like the AQ test and the aspie quiz, they are in the General Autism Discussion forum here on WP.

Enjoy your stay on the Wrong Planet!

35 on the AQ. 119/82 on the aspie quiz. Took the EQ, SQ, and FQ. I didnt copy the scores but they were all in the aspie range. On the other hand, I took a couple nonverbal communications tests and I did fairly well.

Some of the problems I've had, I had never heard of anyone else having until I started reading WP posts.

Hey A-markz,

Welcome to Wrongplanet.net Forums Image

The chances are that you could be an aspie is a 50/50 chance or you could have the traits, are you going to get your diagnosis soon or do you prefer to save money and self-diagnose youself? It works sometimes.

Well this is the place to start start your quest and enjoy posting here at WP.
