Well, here I am. Due to some personal issues that have been going on between my wife and myself I was kicked out of my home and out of my little girls' lives. She hates that I never have anything to say, and she's right. I hate it too. Anyway, I was talking to my mother earlier today, and she told me my father had been diagnosed with Asperger's. I started looking into what that meant and I happened to find the Wrong Planet. The information I've seen so far has me thinking that an autistic spectrum disorder may be to blame for why I can't think and talk the way my wife wants me to, especially considering my father has a formal diagnosis. I was thinking I might like to hang around here a little and see what folks have to say, but I thought I'd say hi just because.

Sounds like you're at least in the bracket as a fellow sufferer. Too bad there's no cure.

How old are your daughters? Are they socialising normally, or are they odd too? Perhaps you can get good at being odd and then be of use to them later?

Hi Lost Again,

I'm so sorry you are having marital difficulties. Of course you haven't really changed though, have you? When you married you had trouble communicating, it isn't something new. She knew when she married you. Maybe she thought she could change you. If you get a formal diagnosis maybe you can use it to help her understand how and why you are the way you are, and that you are just fine as you are. Maybe things will work out. If they don't at least you'll be better prepared to explain yourself to any new people in your life, and to your daughters. You should have a right to be involved with them regardless of your wife's feelings about you. They could have an Autism Spectrum Disorder too and need your help with it.

I sometimes wonder if I'm an Aspie too. Two of my kids are and my third child was dx'd as PDD-NOS. They are GREAT kids and I wouldn't change them for the world. Yes, the autism fairy took some things from them, but she left far greater gifts. They see solutions to problems others would never find. They think more visually, but this is an ability not a disability. They have obsessions that will take them far in the world. The world is a better place because Aspie's live in it.
