Hi guys, I'm new to this forum, looking forward to getting to know some of you better =)

I've been lurking around here for the past half hour and just reading posts on different people's experiences made me realise that there are others that think and act like me and I can relate to them on so many levels and that's really overwhelmed me. I haven't been formally diagnosed with AS although it's very likely that I have it after reading around the topic for the essay I'm writing for uni and reading some of the posts here from people who have been diagnosed.

A bit about me:
I'm a third year medical student studying at the University of Auckland in NZ. I'm 19 years old and I've been living away from my parents for the past 2 years since my dad works as a rural GP in the countryside. I love anime and manga, playing the piano, chess and video games when I'm not studying. Oh yes, and I'm asian =)

Making friends and socialising are difficult things for me and I guess are the things I'm working on most at the moment. My high school years were largely spent in isolation with no attempt at finding social gratification whatsoever, and I truly wish to forget those days. Only recently have I made attempts at seeking social fulfilment, and while it was forced at first, person-to-person interactions are gradaully becoming more natural phenomena to me. Of course, I'm still by far outclassed by my peers - a class full of socially and academically adept medical students, but you have to stand before you can walk, right?

I was wondering, did you suspect you have it before you decided to write an essay about AS?
