Hello, i am a newcomer to this forum. I am 34 years old now and never has been diagnosed with Asperger (in fact the condition is not in the common knowledge of people on my country Chile). Last month, by accident (searching answers to myself history and present time), I have found this syndrome that clearly matches with most aspects of my personality. Next I will describe some facts in my history that I'll appreciate to get back reader's opinion:

* From children I have had problems with attention to expositors (teachers, etc.). I understand more reading than with explanations.
* In my infancy I suffered because of severe bullying. It lasted to the age of 13. It stopped only after I grew up, mainly because I turn from a thin child into a tall and strong one.
* I have had only one best friend (now I am thinking it has Asperger too). Now I have zero social life.
* My first girlfriend (actually my wife), I knew her at 26 years old. My past stories with girls all ended shortly mainly to communication problems.
* I self tested myself in autism online tests. I have got 10 points on the empathy coefficient (for a total of 80 points).
* Others tests give me a high probability of having Asperger.
* It's very difficult to me to share with other people. I have not interests in common.
* I am graduated in Computer Science and love technology.

Now I have two childrens (both boys). I have seeing in them some characteristics of my own personality and I am very worried about it.
I am open to answer another questions, please provide it.

Thanks.

:D Its impossible to raise children without transmitting aspects of your own personality. It just happens.

If you (and they) do have AS, its not like its a terminal disease. Its just a particular brain configuration, and as you've already apparently lived with it for years, you know it may present difficulties, but it doesn't kill you. Your kids will still be great kids.

Does the school system where you live screen children for learning disabilities?

You have done an excellent job at sharing your A.S. experience and thanks.

Hello gxcr, welcome,

Might be you have AS, but of course we can't tell, you would have to see a doctor and a psychologist and / or a psychiatrist.

Enjoy your stay on the Wrong Planet!

Thanks to all who replied. Willard in the city I live, recently has been formed an small Asperger's support group, but school system is far from being friendship to persons with learning disabilities, even more, in my country it is valorated and promoted people with roguish attitudes. Persons that do not adjust to this archetype are catalogued of stupid ones. But worst is that the public school system is collapsing because of bullying.
Someone can suggest me a good book on raising and educating childs with Asperger?

It is the same in the United States ... some individuals have backward attitudes. However, fortunately there are federal laws which protect those, who need learning disability assistance and protection from the knuckledraggers you describe.
