I've been lurking on here for over a year now and I have decided to introduce myself - since I received an informal diagnosis of Aspergers Syndrome on Friday at the doctors. I'm now being referred to a psychologist for assessment and confirmation.

Now I feel a sense of relief and understand why I am, the way I am.

Additionally, my obsessions are; Pokemon, geology and meteorlogy, although I am also interested in anime, aspergers syndrome, astronomy and gaming consoles.

Welcome to WP Volcano

It's good you're taking your diagnosis the right way. So many people don't.

I'm not an expert, but those are fascinating subjects to me.

I developed an obsession with extreme weather/natural disasters after watching Twister for the first time and I've been collecting natural disaster films since. Every new one I receive, I watch continuously - my most recent addition to the collection is 2012. In the media recently, the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajokull erupted - (as many people already know) which made the news more interesting then it is already, thus I researched this heavily.

Additionally, thank you for the welcomes.

I have one book on volcanos.

I find hydrothermal vents / hot springs of great fascination. Entire ecosystems thrive around them, without sunlight. There are strange organisms like "eyeless shrimp" that inhabit these little known niches.

BTW, I've been lucky (during the 1980's) to visit places like Yellowstone National Park, and saw "Old Reliable". Didn't have a very good smell at all. :?

It'd be truely facinating to actually visit a volcano! Also, since Yellowstone National Park is over the Yellowstone Caldera, a super volcano - if it was to erupt, the effects of the eruption would be catastrophic.

I read on the news recently, regarding this 'snail-like' creature with plant and animal features.

Yup. That "Supervolcano" is one of the greatest threats to life on earth. This series originally aired on ABC television. Frightening...

The 'real' eruption would be one hundred times bigger than that shown in 2012 when the supervolcano erupts - the consquences are frightening just thinking about it!

I wish you could recall the name of it.

I've often filmed Euglena and Volvox and other protists (meaning "first animals") under the microscope. But these that I speak of are microscopic. There are some creatures, that resemble plants, but are animals. And vis versa, *smile* -- the Venus flytrap and other carnivorous forms of plants.

WikiAnswers
Is a sea anemone a plant or an animal? It is an animal that looks like a plant, a member of the invertebrates ...

I like the technicality of Venus flytraps - how the plant kills its prey etc, but I observe them as quite scary and I used to have one myself.
