... you will find no competition from this newbie. haha

I guess I'm a new member!

I'm a 39 year old guy in the Midwest USA.

In the last 6 months, while being treated for depression, I have had two different counselors independently suggest to me that I get evaluated for possible Aspergers.

I guess I didn't really take it that seriously at first. I even have a person I am supposed to call who is an expert to evaluate me, but I just didn't do it. With my depression treatment, I have been spending a lot of time thinking about how I approach life, including social interaction.

Well tonight, on another "general interest" forum, I read someone's post about Aspergers. So many of the things he said in his post were things that have been coming out of my mouth the last few months, that a lightbulb went off and I went frantically searching for more information. I ended up finding another post on that forum about having Aspergers, which mentioned this site.

How grateful I am to have found what looks to be a fantastic resource!

I guess what I most wish I had was a little guy sitting on my shoulder who could watch me interact with people and tell me what I did/said wrong or right, or what cues I was missing, or whatever. Because I find myself scratching my head a lot, and not understanding "what just happened there??"

Anyway, I look forward to hopefully learning, sharing, and growing with everyone.

Welcome to WrongPlanet, and welcome to my time warp.

I look like the drummer of my favourite band, and I drum some good 60s beats. 8)

I'll send you a picture, later. I don't want to spam the welcome forum, with Kinks pictures.

Welcome. It'd be really cool to have that little guy on the shoulder, wouldn't it? BTW, nice post title. If you continue complimenting us like this, you'll be popular in no time ;)

Hi I just joined and I agree with you saying you wish you had someone sat on your shoulder advising you about your social interactions. I have often wished that. I have been thinking of getting a mini camera sewn into my clothes to record all my interactions and then play them back to someone who can tell me what was going on....LOL

Two forum questions:

1. How does Cockney have a different icon every time I see it? :)

2. I am curious to post things such as "Here is something I observed: Asperger's or not". Is there a specific place where this would be appropriate?

e.g. For hobbies: I will get interested in something and have laser focus on it....for like 2 months....then I get bored or distracted for a while, until the next thing catches my eye. Usually I spend all my energy all day thinking about the current "hobby" and feel like it will last forever. Normal/Aspergers/Something else? :)

I need to really really try to get over the sporadic interests. I started writing a book about 2 months ago and wrote a complete first draft (80,000 words) in about 3 weeks. Then I slowed down with it and now I have not touched it for 2 weeks. I feel I have lost interest but want to get back on it.

Wow!! That sounds like a lot of writing. Are you happy with the work?

It will always be there for you to come back to. My sporadic interests usually cycle, so eventually I come to the same things again :)

How much more work do you think it will take to 'finish' ?

I'm going to welcome you because you was pretty interesting in the WP irc chat.
So yea, can I ask, how did you found out about this site?
