Hello everyone. I am glad this forum looks like a busy one. I just joined. I have not had a diagnosis yet but several suggestions have been made that I have AS. First time was 10 years ago and I took it as an insult. But recently I am taking it seriously. I am 40, English, and have been working in a proffesional job for the past 10 years or so. Done ok for myself considering my background. But now I have lost my job because of a bout of depression and the pdoc said it may be down to AS. Have read books about it now and am convinced it is me. Wish I could have found all this out sooner.

I can relate to you!

In 1998 I had a depression crisis that I didn't end up taking seriously. Well now at the end of 2009 I had another crisis, which you can believe I am taking very seriously now. I feel like I wasted all those years. At the same time, I tell myself - be glad it is happening in 2010 and not 2020.

I also got a mental health diagnosis in 1998 that I found distasteful. However, now I believe it is correct and am taking it for what it is. I think this is probably a normal process. I am very excited to be getting treatment for what is truly wrong with me, instead of pretending I'm something I'm not. And soon I expect to be professionally evaluated for Aspergers so I can move forward with that as well.

(I left my job in January, too. Job hunting can be hard to manage with depression for sure.)

Just know that you aren't alone, and that getting treatment will help prevent future problems.

I always say, the first half of my life may have sucked, but I'd rather have the second half be the good half then the other way around!

Hi thanks everyone. I will say that the depression side is manageable for me, it just seems to p*ss everyone else off. But I suppose if the underlying cause is AS then that gives me something to hopefully rid myself of it.
