First of all, welcome to WrongPlanet!
To tell or not to tell...hmm. So far, I've only told people I'm close to--even my coworkers don't know (though they do realize I'm a bit "odd"

).
Every situation is different. Sometimes it's hard to know whether or not it's appropriate.
Also, some people don't even know what it is, so be prepared for giving some explanation in the face of a few blank looks.
If you're close with your family and/or some friends, start there and gauge their reactions. I would hold off telling those who are just acquaintances/coworkers/classmates, at least for now.
Again, welcome!
