Not quite sure where to start, I find these kind of posts difficult to write.

I'm 36 years old, married with three kids.

A few years ago I started to suspect I might be an Aspie. I did some reading online, but never really followed through with getting a formal diagnosis. A lot of it seemed very similar to my childhood, and the way I see the world. I brought it up with a shrink I was seeing for my depression/anxiety, but she said I wasn't, and moved on.

Last year, my 9yo son (middle child) was formally diagnosed as HFA bordering on Asperger's.

I know that there's statistically a good chance that one parent of a child on the spectrum is likely to be on the spectrum themselves, so I brought this up with the new shrink I've been seeing for the past six months.

She also told me that because I could communicate with her, that she doesn't think I'm on the spectrum.

Over the weekend a friend lent me Tony Attwood's book.

After reading through the first few chapters, I felt like I was reading a book about my childhood.

It felt like everything suddenly came into focus. I quoted some of the book to my wife, and asked her a few questions and she was like "That's you. That's exactly you."

Two psychologists tell me I'm not, but both my wife and my gut say otherwise.

I don't know where to go from here. Well... I'm here, but beyond that... :?

Welcome to wrong planet! I hope you get some of your questions answered. My son is also on the spectrum and i am also undiagnosed. Im unsure wether to seek a formal diagnosis as well. I feel that we learn a lot of our communication skills as a necessity for day to day living. Thats why its hard for an adult to be diagnosed. We can easily come across as being 'normal'. But it would be nice to have some answers to why were are the way we are. I always had a pet name for myself (freak) but now im cutting myself some slack and finally getting some answers. Hope you find some too. You dont really need a shrink to define who you are.
