Hi I am a 19 year old female and I was diagnosed with Non-Verbal Learning Disorder when I was eight years old. I was told it is nearly indistinguishable from Asperger's. I have a limited emotional range, trouble understanding social cues, I hear that constant loud obnoxious humming that comes from electrical devices and light bulbs, I am aware that computer screens flash every fraction of a second, I engage in simming behavior, I'm long winded and pedantic, I sometimes walk away when someone is speaking to me (ect ect), and my dyscalculia, extremely bad sense of direction and my advanced verbal skills are the symptoms that classify me as a person with NVLD. Its a newly identified disorder I think, not as popular or researched as Asperger's, and when I tell people the name of my disorder they usually assume it is a learning disorder that only affects academia, like dyslexia, and they relate to me as if I am "normal." I usually tell people that I have Asperger's because most people have some knowledge of what that entails for a person socially.

I never have any idea what to chose for a username. Some people seem to want to choose a word that sums up their personality, like a title sums up a movie (Splice, Rocker, ect). Some people choose objects they like, or nicknames, or obscure combinations of words like bloodychandelier. I like doughnuts. They are better than most things, but I only like the glazed and the pink frosting. I'm pretty sure my IQ is 130, but I never actually read my test results except one part that contained a very erroneous interpretation of my social behavior by a neurotypical doctor. I grew up in a town that was considered is considered to be "ghetto." I went to public school and I was on the honor role for a year and a half before I dropped out, and I attended junior college for a year and a half and now I'm taking the summer off. I like the Beatles and being alone and I don't shave or eat meat. Now you know me I suppose. Now please tell me random facts about yourselves, especially your favorite kind of ice cream or pastry. I have told you incredibly personal information about myself, the least you could do is tell me your favorite kind of ice cream. Come on, you know you want to.

I like pink donuts, as well as Bavarian cream.

I thought your screen name was a Simpsons reference at first.

Haha, no I don't watch that much TV. I mean, well, I do, but I only watch a few specific shows and the Simpson's isn't one of them. I've seen it before with a friend though, its funny.

Chocolate and vanilla? You know those aren't as popular as you'd think. A lot of people like mint chip. I love ice cream but the store bought is so bad. This ice cream I have in my freezer has a few ingredients in that act as laxatives if consumed in excess.

well i would be in trouble cos excess is my middle name :D.
I like a 'lite' low sugar ice cream, not because of any health reasons, just because it tastes better.
You didnt tell us your favorite flavor!

Hi, welcome! I'm a 20 year old female in the US, also with NVLD and "gifted" IQ scores, so we have a lot in common demographically. :) I don't get why people would think NVLD is an academic disorder like dyslexia when most nonverbal stuff that could be affected isn't actually academic, but people have all sorts of weird ideas, right? :-/

I love the Beatles too! What's your favorite album?

Oh, right, ice cream. I like any kind of chocolate ice cream. Coffee and green tea are nice, too. :)

It is lite ice cream that has the laxative! Lite, slow-churned! Dreyer's! Laxative! Its really a laxative my dad eats that ice cream all the time. And its pumpkin :)

Mosaic of minds. That's a movie title username. WE BOTH HAVE THE SAME THING! *tackle* I am using astrics around the word tackle to indicate that if we are meeting face to face I would be tackling you because we share similar traits and we could probably form affiliative social relations! Why do I talk like this? OMG.

YAY. NVLD. I have never met anyone else with NVLD. I wonder how similar our symptoms are. (:

I love green tea ice cream, its my favorite next to pumpkin. Pumpkin is extra special because you can only get it on holidays or if you make it yourself.

Lite ice cream has laxative? I never knew that.

Really? What's the movie? I bet it's interesting. (Yep, I came up with the username independently, to express my interest in/support for neurally diverse minds...and spent forever deliberating about it). "Affiliative social relations"...love it. I talk that way too sometimes if I'm not careful. Can you get away with talking that way IRL?

I actually never met anyone with NVLD until I joined WP, and there's not that many of us here from what I can tell, so it's totally exciting. I'd be happy to compare notes on symptoms with you...not sure whether it'd be more polite to do that here or on messages, though.

Don't know if I've ever had pumpkin ice cream...it sounds really good, though. Do you make it yourself?

Hello pinkdoughnut, welcome,

I go for organic vanilla ice cream, though there are more flavours that I like, but I just ate that one.

Enjoy your stay on the Wrong Planet!

Artificial sweeteners are laxative, so you may also notice that effect after eating other light / lite products containing artificial sweeteners.
