My name is Cate, I'm 24, and although I dont have aspergers, my boyfriend, pistonhead does. I feel so bad that sometimes people do not take the time out to really understand those with aspergers. Chris (pistonhead), has to be the most amazing person I've ever met. I think he is such a genius, even though he tends to put him self down. I also have a cousin with aspergers as well, so I've always kind of wanted to know more. From what I gather with Chris, he has a really hard exterior and a hard time displaying any emotions, but I love him even if it doesnt seem like he loves me. I know he does though, and thats enough for me :)
I've always wondered, is there variations of aspergers? Is it genetic?
Anyway...just saying hai to the forum. =]

Hi, Cate, welcome to WP!

It's great that you already seem to understand your bf's condition so well. Glad you're here--that suggests you want to know more so you can understand it fully. :)

Variations of Asperger's: Well, AS is what is known as an "Autistic Spectrum Disorder," meaning that it is, more or less, a "mild" form of Autism. That's oversimplifying it a lot, mind you. There are also levels of severity of Asperger's itself, and you will probably encounter all of them on this forum.

In some cases it seems to be genetic--some people here have said that relatives of theirs have it. Others, like myself, are the only one in their family that they know of.

Anyway, welcome again, please take some time to look around and feel free to post any questions you have.

Welcome to WP! And congrats on making the effort to try to understand us ASPIE's. Yes, we are difficult to live with, but then again we also have our plus points, as you have seen. Thanks for making the effort. It is very much appreciated.
