Hi. I'm a 60-year old male, self-diagnosed from a Time magazine sidebar, with the diagnosis confirmed by the Veterans Administration.
So for all those years (well, since I was 7, anyway) I've wondered what was wrong with me. It blew my mind to find out, and to find out how many more people are coping with similar symptoms. I wish my parents were still alive, it would have blown them away as well, all those years of parental frustration.
I use Mac computers (& iPod), and have a group of websites at http://scoogy.com some of which I like, others needing upgrading or mercy killing. I follow a local rock band here, Max Creek, and have the largest and most-visited part of my website devoted to them, both pictures and MP3's of shows I created mostly from cassettes.
I'd love to find a new job, but don't know how to show a prospective employer that my AS has its positive sides, and that I can be a very good employee if put into the right job.
I don't know how to write a post without using "I" all the time. :D

Welcome to WP :)

I think that computer stuff fit us aspies, we can work alone, communicate through email/IM, and many of us know how to use computers pretty well, I see you have many websites, have you looked into working in something related? just a suggestion ;)

Welcome Ed.

I'm in my fifties and only found out I have AS this year. You have plenty of company.

Hi Ed,

I'm new here too. My son has been diagnosed with AS. I have a lot of the symptoms myself, but have been diagnosed as not having AS/autism. I think if I talked to a different counselor, though, the results could be different. (Kind of like recounts in the 2000 election, but I won't go there!) I feel like I'm at the borderline. I will be 40 in a few days.

I love Macintosh computers, too. My husband gave me a Macintosh for Christmas last year (dual 1.8 G5, with 20 inch monitor). Don't even want to use PCs anymore.

Love the animal pictures on your web site. Is that your cat? Maybe you should rename the "Etc" section to "Black and White", since the kitty and skunk had the same coloring. I like seeing animals in my backyard, too. It's mostly bunnies and squirrels.

I'm currently a stay at home mom. I would like to get a job, but have too much anxiety to really pursue that right now. Also, my son is probably going to have to go to counselors, etc. during the week, so it's better that someone is at home for him. Remember, you don't have to divulge your AS to an employer if you don't want to. Do what gets you the best result.
