Hello WP!
I'm new, so I might as well say hi and introduce myself briefly.
I recently turned 23, was diagnosed with AS a few months ago, and AS has certainly expressed itself in my character since an early age. I've had a vested interest in computers since around age 6. Currently I fix computers part-time and go to school part-time.
School was interesting for me. I fell into the drug thing in 2000, progressing from relatively harmless drugs to worse ones in 2004 and 2005, and finally getting my act together for the most part last September. I've grown quite a bit since then, but I feel I have a long way to go still.
In recent years my interests have migrated to all sorts of sciences. I'm a philosopher of sorts, applying what brain cells I have left towards understanding the world around me to a deeper scientific level.
Co-existing diagnoses include bipolar 2 and OCD. The bipolar is medicated to a good level now, however my brain is quite dullened to my dissatisfaction. This is one thing that is keeping me from getting on to full-time school. OCD is another interesting thing in itself.
Now that you know a little about my background, I would like to add my intentions of participating in this community. I'm sure there's others here that are my age or younger, and I hope that I can contribute my experience and understanding of AS and the world around me, to help others in their journey forward in life. There is hope!
Please feel free to contact me on these forums, I consider myself nice and a valuable resource in the things I have experience in. It's nice to find this board, I hope to get to know everyone here in time.
welcome

Hi!
Welcome to Wrongplanet!
I hope you enjoy posting here!
sad, but true that many aspies as they get older get engulfed by the drug culture.
what i found comforting about drug culture is that there are predictable protocols for interaction. i prefer situations where the rules of engagement for social interaction are clearly defined.
street drugs will mess up an aspie's routine; therefore, the autistic difficulties are worsened by recreational drugs. that would probably include alcohol too.
also: many people in the drug culture will pretend to be your friend when really they just want something from you or intend to manipulate you - even worse than in average neurotypical subgroups.
on the other hand - many of the psychiatric drugs leave something to be desired. if someone is miserable it is natural to want to find a way to feel better.
be forewarned: street drugs will bring you down even if you might feel better for a little while because it is next to impossible to maintain a stable lifestyle on street drugs. Also: people in the drug culture may act like they are your friends but most of them are parasites.
i'm sorry to hear that your bipolar meds are making you feel not well. please let your doctor know.
i welcome you.
really really really hope you find ...
find...
something better, somone better, a way to communicate...
and more....
