Hi! I wanted to introduce myself. I'm Hannah, 27 year old married mom of 6 1/2 children. We're a blended family, the 3 oldest (10, 8, 5) being his, the next one down the line (4) mine, and the two youngest (2, and 11 months) and the unborn one being ours. Life is never boring.

My 4 year old was diagnosed on Friday with Asperger's, among other things (see signature for others) and I really have known for a long time that is what it was...I just needed the official diagnosis to get him the support and help he needs. He insisted on going to public school like his older brothers do, so I wanted to be armed with what I need to make sure they work with him as well as possible.

In going through the testing, and in living with him and seeing his issues developing, I realize how much he and I are alike. It makes me wonder. For kicks and grins I took a GADS survey online and came out as very aspie. However my husband and I have been debating whether I should be evaluated or not. He thinks I shouldn't bother now that I'm an adult. I think it really bothers me not to know for sure.

I am a self-employed photographer and violin teacher. Music is my fixation, in a way.

Anyways, just wanted to say hi. :)

Welcome to WP, trinity2883!

If you feel the need to get an official diagnosis, then by all means go for it.

Glad you found us. :)

Hi...and welcome to WP.

I will try to contribute if I can.

You are a 27 year old woman. You have youth to your advantage. You should know if you don't already...Asperger's presents differently in women.

I am a 40 year old man. I have spent a lot of time wondering if I should seek a formal diagnosis or not. I am deciding it is not cost effective.

What would be "cost effective" for you? Ask yourself some basic questions...what insurance do you have....what tangible benefits will come out of a diagnosis.

Do some research specific to your area....who is qualified to do the evaluation...what do they cost?

If you end up with a clear picture of something that seems cost effective, then you will have an easier time deciding if you should seek a formal dx.

Spend more time on WP...there are a lot of people asking the same question.
