I just thought I'd introduce myself since I'm sure I'll be hanging around and asking questions from time to time. An Aspie friend referred me to this site after talking with him about my son. My son is 12 and has several different diagnoses but one of his Dr.'s has DX him as Aspie. I, on the other hand have looked into it a lot and see it. If they would take all of his symptoms, I don't know how they can't see it too. His diagnoses include/have included severe ADHD combined type with impulsivity, Dysthymia, depression, ODD, mood disorder (it's bi-polar but don't want to say that yet because he's so young still), sleep disorder, learning disabilities, mild mental retardation, and there may be a few that I can't think of right off. He's been hospitalized twice for his behavior and medication changes. He's currently taking Adderall, Zoloft, Depakote, Abilify, and Trazadone but he's still not sleeping when he should or as much as he should, not eating very well at all, having issues with inattention and impulsivity, and his mood swings are getting awful again. He's already been suspended twice this school year and they've only been in for a month. I went to the RDOS aspie quiz and filled out as much as I could and his score was 159/200 very likely aspie. Again, how can his Dr.s not see this? And that score is with some of the questions left blank! Anyway, I'm looking for other parents of pre-teen aspies to connect with and hopefully some near me. I hope you are all having a great day!

Welcome sandy! I'm from VA too. Where more specifically are you? My best suggestion is to take him to a doctor that knows nothing about his history and get him a neuropsychological evaluation from scratch if you want the most clear answer possible. Its entirely possible your doctor is completely correct, but he wont be able to see things with a completely fresh perspective if he diagnosed him with his other conditions. A second opinion never hurts.

I am also from Va. I would love it if all us 'ginians were able to communicate. As a kid I had issues but not acting out in school as both parents were teachers with heavy oversight.

Where are we all from in VA?

H.
