Thats cool. I'm thinking about starting an aspie/pdd group around Pittsburgh. That would be a bit for you to travel, but if you're interested let me know.

Tanks a lot!

I think that I should give my unformed group an unofficial name. I'm thinking the "Aulympia Academy."

I read part of your blog. I have a problem/gift to. My mind wonders. Today, while I should have been working, I was thinking about the nature of energy and had an epiphany regarding the relationship between energy and matter. I just couldn't stop thinking about it until I resolved the problem. I often forgot what I was doing. I would come to and have to look at my papers to figure out what I was working on. It seems like when I think about these things the rest of the world disappears.

Hello all, SW PA here, between Uniontown and Pittsburgh. There is an Aspie/Autism group that meets 2x a month near Pittsburgh. Does anyone know more about it/interested in going?

I'd like to find out more about it. Do you have anymore information?

Well I was emailed by a therapist about it. I'll get off my butt and look here in a second. I have not gone as I didn't want to get my hopes up and then go and totally not fit in and be all disappointed. It's a social thing I haven't done so it's weird and I don't have all the rules figured out yet.

Welcome, Angelalala. I'm pretty much in the same boat. I obsess over things so I've spent a lot of time here already and learned a lot more about myself. What do you mean by "whats going on with" you? I understand the concern for you child, too. My wife and I are both Aspies(and yes, we do fight a lot because of it) and our fourteen month old daughter is the most advanced child at her center. She is advanced beyond most of the two year olds. She often speaks in full sentences. We should be extremely proud of her, but all I can think about is is she going to start regressing. Did she somehow manage to avoid our problems or is she going to end up with one of the worst PDDs? Most of the time I just want to scream! Which is why I had to join this community. It has helped me calm down enormously. Feel free to ask me anything you want though. I'm one of those that is often too honest.

TheBrain. I have three kids and your daughter sounds like my eldest, he was talking full sentences around age 13-15 months, reading at grade 4 level in kidergarten and so on. Later he was diagnosed with epilepsy and ADHD... and it seems like he stopped advancing or even regressed from there. My other two kids both have autism, probably going to be down-graded to aspergers later as they are both very very bright and starting to talk.

No, but I'm kinda just across the boarder, Cleveland OH area. I'm going to work in Greenville next week and I'm finding out its within a couple hours drive.

I'm down in southeastern PA and sometimes attend the Greater Philadelphia area GRASP meetings. As far as I'm aware, in PA, GRASP has chapters in suburban Philly and Erie and that's it. Maybe if you're interested in starting a group out near Pittsburgh and are looking for support and tools to help you with it, you could consider doing it through them. grasp.org

Good luck! And, welcome to WP, by the way.

Hopefully she'll be the type that doesn't regress. There is no evidence of it in our ancestry, so we should be fine. I don't know how you are, but I obsessively worry about everything. The only thing that stops my obsessive worrying is preoccupation with other obsessions. :)

I'm trying to see if some people want to get together and share their experiences, but it sounds like you'll be come and gone by the time it I can make it happen. You should still look into groups, though. You might be able to figure some stuff out about yourself, or, better yet, help one of us who is struggling.

Lol, its not necessarily off the table though. Getting to Greenville only took 1hr 45 minutes for me because I had to take backroads (5 around Warren to 88 to whatever), supposedly Sharon and West Middlesex where I'm staying is only 80-some miles from my place.

I'm just saying, if you're up for getting people together some time perhaps on a Sunday, and plan to start thing early and wrap things up early - I'm not out of the question.

The other thing about groups, I did talk a local friend/psych into starting one back in 2006 - he and his wife are both, in regard to the Cleveland area, pretty far forward in the autism community. We got that off the ground, I attended for maybe two or three years, great people - and seeing other aspies IRL helped me, as you said, to get a much clearer concept on the boundaries of AS; what it is, what it isn't, how it may possibly define me and where it clearly doesn't. Also got the chance to speak at a few Milestone events! Overall it can be a great experience but, just as easily, you can end up in an aspie group - realize that you have a group of good acquaintences there but perhaps not anyone you'd go out of your way to hang or socialize with in the long run, ie. AS at least gives a certain amount of glue for conversation and interaction but like anything else its all in who you have the most in common with (whether that's interests or just fundamental attitudes/beliefs). That's not to say that it became a waste of my time either, just that it was $50 a session, my financial realities were changing, and I kinda felt like I was paying to co-lead the meetings more than anything else.
