I heard of AS a few years ago, but didn't think I could have it at first because I'd only heard of autism as a more severe condition. I started reading about then decided to see someone about it and was diagnosed a few months ago. My symptoms are basically the same as are usually mentioned: developing obsessions, failing to integrate socially in various differnt groups (partly as a result of talking non-stop about those obsessions) and sensory aversions to certain textures of food.

Welcome to Wrong Planet. :)

I can ramble on about my Obsession, as well. If you read some of my Posts, you'll know what I'm talking about.

On the food issue, the basic rule has been things with squishy-type textures and in particular with sauce on them, although as I've got older (I'm 21) I've been willing to eat more and more that would have been a problem before. It goes back further than I can remember; my parents asked our doctor about it, who said the diet I was sticking to was boring but fine from a medical point of view. I was often into fairly strong tastes but plain textures. My obsessions have often related to books or series or books that I’ve been reading, as well as various things relating to roads and cars, like lists of car specifications and details about traffic signs (long before I was old enough to need to know about them). I was into computers a bit in the 90s, when I used an Acorn, but now I just know enough to get by. Like some people have mentioned on the obsessions thread, I’ve also made something of an interest of Asperger’s.
