Heya folks
I'm Jayneth... I live in Scotland with my wonderful partner, & our crazy Maine Coon, Moloch (I'm still fairly convinced that naming said cat after a demon that requires sacrifice may not have been the best move, ). I've got my appointment for AS/HFA assessment in mid-January, so technically I'm an unknown quantity, hehe.. but so far, both my partner & I are convinced that I'm aspie.
I started reading about Autistic Spectrum "Disorders" as part of my nursing training, as I'm in the Learning Disabilities branch.. Took me a while to get my head around it properly, which probably wasn't helped by the info I had being particularly biased towards the medical model. Thankfully, my stubborn insistence on being able to understand it has led me towards a lot of blogs, articles, etc., that have really helped me to get to grips with everything. It's shedding a whole lot of light over my own history, as well as beginning to be a real fascination that could end up greatly influencing my future career! That's not to say I don't have my worries/questions/etc., but overall, I'm pretty positive about the potential diagnosis.
Other stuffz about me: my spare time is filled with songwriting, webdesign, learning random circus skills...I'm around 5'8'', with glasses & hair down to my bum. I'm crap at remembering to change my clothes, so it's a good thing I hang around with a bunch of geeky hippies who don't care about that stuff! Oh, and I can't stop using emoticons...
I also have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, so I'm fairly used to having to educate medical professionals, lol..
Anyhoo! Edinburgh is covered in snow right now, & that's a fine excuse for me to huddle up next to the fire & read my way through a bunch of WP threads. Nice to "meet" ye all.. Cup o' tea, anyone?
