Hello,
This is my first post as a new member. I am a forty-year old man who was diagnosed last year with mild Aspergers in addition to ADD. When I was assessed the doctor was on the fence as far an A.S. or PDD-nos diagnosis.
Sadly, I am in the beginning stages of a divorce after sixteen years of marriage. We have two children ages six and three. The oldest, my daughter has been diagnosed with ADHD and has had an amazing turnaround academicaly and socially with treatment. My wife and I believe it is a given that my son will be diagnosed as well when he reaches an appropriate age.
In addition to all the above mentioned, I have epilepsy, mainly complex partial seizures no tonic-clonic seizures to date.
Backing up a little bit, I sought out answers after reading some material on both ADD and A.S. while waiting to see my neurologist. I had my life flash back and it all made sense, my performance in school, "both as a child and college student;" my interactions with people throughout life, my marriage, etc..
I would like to meet people in the Dayton, Ohio area going through some of the same things as adults; I haven't been able to locate any support groups tailored for adults and I have very few friends.
Matt
