My name is Ginny Leigh. My son is 6 and just got diagnosed with Asperger's. We knew something was wrong when everytime I asked him to change an activity he acted like he just watched me get shot. He had a complete meltdown everytime activities or plans were changed. So we had him tested and he has Asperger's Syndrome and is on the boarderline of having ADD. I am relieved to a point because I know why! Just scared now for the future and how we are going to handle the next 12 to 24 years of his life. Look forward to support.

My son was also just diagnosed at 6.5 and, now that I know the symptoms, I think someone else in my family has it also. The public schools are equiped with research materials, and hopefully where you are, therapist. IEP has been very beneficial and he may benefit from outside organizations in your area. My suggestion to you is to start with your school district and also look into local support groups. I'm just starting now and learning alot. I also watched the movie "ADAM" which helped explain some things also. According to IEP in my son's school, the information conveyed is resourceful and not Hollywood-ized. I hope this helps and feel free to write back.
