Hi!! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! Your daughter's adopted from Romania? How old is she? Has she been formally diagnosed with AS? I'm also adopted and I have PPD-NOS. Now, one thing I asked my psychologist is how much of my limitations are caused by my institutionalization. She said that autism spectrum disorders have a very very strong genetic component. However, knowing what I know about life in institutions (I came from one in the Philippines that had a pretty high caregiver: child ratio and decent sensory stimulation, but definitely not what infants have in this country), I think there may be some genetic-environment interaction with us. However, not every child that's adopted has PPD or AS. My sensory issues might've been exacerbated by the institutionalization, but there is really no way for me to know.

Haha, sorry - nerdy lecture there - but seriously, if you have any questions, you can ask me and I can try and answer :)

Welcome to Wrong Planet! There's a parents' forum, so you should find a lot of information there!

When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.
