Hi! I'm an NT wife and mother.
My name is Yoly, 29, from Miami and a domestic goddess.
My husband is an Apsie (hellfire418) and my daughter has PDD/NOS, hyperlexia.

I'm here because my daughter's neurologist suggested that both my husband and I learn more about Asperger. She basically conformed his suspicions of being an Aspie. So I'm here for support and to educate myself.

YOLY,IM NOT VERY KNOWABLE ABOUT ASPERGER, SO CAN YOU ANSWER A FEW QUESTIONS FOR ME
WHAT DOES NT MEAN ?? AND ALSO PDD/NOS HYPERLEXIA??
I THINK ONE OF OUR SONS HAS ADHD, AND HIS COUCLER THINKS SO TOO, BUT THE PHY (HEAD, SORRY I CANT SPELL THE NAME) DOESNT KNOW. IT COULD BE THAT OUR SON WASNT IN RESOUCE LAST YR. WHICH HE NEEDS. AT SCHOOL HIS VERY QUITE, BUT DOESNT DO HIS WORK, HE SAYS HIS BORED AND ITS TOO HARD FOR HIM. BUT AT HOME HIS JUMPING OF THE WALLS.
I AM MENTALLY DISABLED MYSELF. SEE MY "GETTING TO KNOW YOU PIECE" IF YOU WANT TO LEARN MORE.
HAVE A GREAT DAY :)
KATHLEEN :)

Kathleen,
An NT is neurotypicals, i.e. "normal" people.

PDD-NOS and Hyperlexia is other "forms" of autism...They are under the umbrella.

PDD-NOS is Pervasive Developmental Disorder - Not Otherwise Specified - is a 'subthreshold' condition in which some - but not all - features of autism or another explicitly identified Pervasive Developmental Disorder are identified.

Hyperlexia is A language disorder characterized by early precocious reading and/or intense fascination with letters and numbers. This is accompanied by limited comprehension of what is read, difficulty with verbal language, difficulties with social interaction and other autistic traits.

My daughter was about to read words since she was about 3yrs old, but couldn't/wouldn't talk. My MIL would tell me...she's lazy you will see that she's going to talk. Well she only talked in phrases, if that. So when she started school, last August, I informed her teacher that she needed speech therapy. Fortunatly for us, the teacher's aid is studing to be a speech pathologist. She was the one that picked up of the hyperlexia. We had a meeting and that's when I discovered all of this. I started the process of going to the doctors and in March I finally got her diagnosis. Which is a very good one.

I don't know much about adhd. My suggestions is try to get a second opinion....

Kathleen,

COULD YOU PLEASE NOT TYPE IN ALL CAPS?

It's hard to read and makes it seem like you are shouting at us.

Thanks.

hi sundy, im very sorry, no insult intended. :)
im legally blind and theys why i do it. :?
but if it will help i'll write in lower case.
yoly, i used to really love working with young adults who have autism, but the group home i was working at had to shut down. and the clinets had to go to other group homes or 2 of them went to the state hospital. i was not happy about that.
i read a book (this was years ago) about a bristish family who had an autism daughter she ended up being able to drive and everything. now if only i could remember the book title. anyway 1 part was that the girl was afraid of the colour red (i think) so the parents made a big red mat or whatever and the girl had to go over that or she had to stay where she was. she had g.i men (they were her brothers) and she took all there clothes of, etc. thats when i wanted to know more. she would sit for hrs and just rock and then she would just keep talking.
anyway thank you for the info.
ps this book is written by a newpaper reporter. and the family is from the 1960s or there abouts.
kathleen
