I have spent 34 years with the diagnosis of autism, and have never come close to having the courage to discuss it, let alone join an online community centered around it, until now. I am a 37 year-old male who was diagnosed when I was three, and something somehow opened the window for me when I was around five years-old to identify social cues enough to interact "normally" (my parents never ceased to train me to recognize and react "appropriately" to subtle visual. verbal and social cues--they had no idea that model would end up to be ingenious). But, it never goes away, and it is exhausting to "fake it" every day. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this. My family (I am married with two wonderful children) intellectually understands, but it ends up being analogous to trying to describe (or even emote) a color no one has ever seen. Would love to know how others successfully navigate this rather unique circumstance...

Exhausting indeed.

I'll start off by welcoming you to WP, welcome.

I bet you'll find a topic or make your own about the questions you have. There are all kinds of interesting and fun people one here to guide you in the right direction or fill in the blanks, or just chit chat if you're in the need of some casual conversation.

With time and some exchange you'll find your spot and mood in all of this. What you're asking is custom to all and how they deal with their everyday lives. Some are well off some less, some are older and can relate to a time where this was something that had to be "fixed/corrected/hidden" if discovered within a person.

It is basically a custom suit for each and all on here and how they deal with it.

Anyways, enjoy WP.

Welcome. Diagnoses being missed seems to be a factor in AS: for me it took until I was 40 to be diagnosed!
