I'm a newly diagnosed atypical Aspie.

Have suffered with depression for more years than I care to remember with the predominant symptom being my being unable to either make or keep relationships. My new shrink is an Aspergers' specialist and has diagnosed me accordingly.

On the upside, I've got my own company which is Aspie Central -- there's four of us, we're all statisticians / economists / physicists / mathematicians. We're all Aspie to one extent or another - an NT friend of mine refers to the company as being Big Bang Theory made real.

In another post I posited the idea that maybe we Aspies are the "real" X-Men (and women) -- that, the way in which our brains are wired is a genetic mutation which makes us - almost - the next evolution of humanity. Presumably this is a fairly controversial view point?

Welcome to the Wrong Planet :)

Hey that is great about your company. It would be great to work for a company where people understand me

I can see us as the "real" X-Men, but not the next evolution. Maybe a fork in the development of humanity

Hi Leila

We build mathematical models.

For the NT community I tend to describe them as "cast-iron-guaranteed insomnia cures".

We've got a few main areas of modelling:

(1) "Normal" models, for day-to-day use by client businesses

(a) Banking

(i) credit risk - PD, LGD, EAD, M
(ii) operational risk - AMA / BIA
(iii) liquidity / ALM
(iv) stress testing

(b) Financial Services (e.g., credit card companies)

(i) credit risk
(ii) fraud risk
(iii) funding risk

(c) Capital Markets (e.g., wholesale funding (securitisation (MBS/ABS) / covered bonds))

(i) credit risk - PD, LGD
(ii) stress testing

(2) Research

(a) Banking / FS / Capital Markets

(i) new methods of measuring risk

(b) "Other"

(i) public sector modelling for geospatial analysis and probabilistic modelling

(3) Community Work

(a) each of us works for one or more universities on an unpaid basis, lecturing in our field of measurement

For me, (2) is most interesting and (3) is most terrifying.
