Diagnosed
Although I've been browsing the forums here for a couple of months now, and already introduced myself a while ago (October I believe), I have news for ye which I feel is a bit important. I received my official AS diagnosis yesterday. Ain't that a blast? It didn't really come as a surprise, though. The only reason for me to doubt AS was my social behavior, which, in general, is pretty much normal, although I tend to start throwing a bit of a tantrum when I'm in a crowd for too long. I also fail to develop 'deep' relationships. In other words, I treat everyone around me as though they were co-workers of mine rather than friends or family. Apparently, that's not normal, and people close to me have tended to complain about this (a lot). It always puzzled me. Ah well, now that I've been diagnosed, I know why that is, so that's good. I don't think this diagnosis will affect my life in the slightest. I'm still a nerd who enjoys history, linguistics and classical music, and who likes to twirl straws between his fingers and who flaps his arms whenever he is excited about something (though not in public). It's a bit of a relief, though. The diagnosis also, at least partially, tells me why I've been suffering from severe depressive episodes ever since I was 15 (I'm 22 now), culminating in some Very Bad Thoughts. The depressive episodes have only been fading since a couple of months, since I quit my booze and marijuana-ridden lifestyle which I had been pursuing since the age of 19 and since I took a job as a private history tutor. So. Just wanted to let you know.
