My ten year old daughter has just been diagnosed with Aspergers, this last week (testing has been done over the last month though). She still has to see a few more people but the big test is done, and confirmed. I feel honestly like I am drowning in information, and lack of information - if that makes any sence. I have no idea what to do next, or where to go, just trudging along right now. I posted a question on my regular parenting forum and felt attacked so went looking for a more friendly place to ask/learn and found you all. Hope to find such a world. I have another daughter as well, she is six. I am a stay at home mom, and we homeschool., though my oldest is going to go to a school that is for kids with Apsergers in our city in September I think. Oh and a hubby to LOL.

Hi! I'm also new here... and also a homeschooling mom. We aren't new to Aspergers though... my oldest is 14yrs and was diagnosed when he was about 8yrs old. I believe I have Aspergers as well... and we are thinking my 4 yr old may wind up with a spectrum diagnosis someday. I have three other kids as well... 7yog and 5 1/2 yob that are very very 'NT'... and a 4 month old boy with no guesses yet. As for hubby I'd say he is teetering on the edge... definately some traits there... but I don't tell *him* that!

We've always homeschooled and kept homeschooling after my son's diagnosis... but I'm sure I'd at least be *curious* about my options if we had an 'all Aspergers' school nearby. Honestly though I'm fairly sure I'd still keep him home after looking. Around here we have some *great* homeschool activities and I can't imagine him doing better than he is anywhere else.

We are looking at him doing some community college classes starting the next year or two to give him more 'classroom' and 'deadline' experience. We set some deadlines here... but at this age I think he really needs someone else expecting work on time for it to sink in and I want him to get that while he still has a 'safety net' to help him bounce back when he struggles socially or with deadlines. That is what I like best about homeschooling... a safe place to 'fail' now and then without the consequences being as damaging. I'm guessing the Aspergers school will be a similar 'safe place to fail' setting if that is what you feel your family needs at this time. :)

Anyway... hope you find lots of support here and elsewhere. Feel free to Private Message me if you would like.

Kristy
