Hi all, I've been lurking on the forums for a while but figured I might as well start posting since I've been spending a lot of time here. My username refers to the game Civilization II that I used to play all the time, and the 56 refers to the answer to 7x8 that I based learning my multiplication tables on. For some reason, I always knew that answer really well, and whenever I had trouble with any other product, I referred back to that one. Probably not interesting to the average person, but this is an Asperger's forum  .

I was diagnosed with Asperger's and PDD-NOS when I was 4, but my diagnosis has since been modified to Nonverbal Learning Disorder after seeing a specialist my junior year of high school. I pass as NT to most people, but I think that trained professionals would recgonize it in me. I have some typical and atypical AS characteristics. My specialty is in language and reading, I taught myself to read when I was 3, and read the Rise and Fall of the Third Reich in 5th grade. I have a weird theory though, as my brain has learned to compensate for my difficulties socializing, I think that it has taken away from my intellectual ability. Also, my special interests used to be typical AS things like video and computer games, but it ultimately ended up being a sport where I competed at the high school and college levels.

Anyway, nice to meet you all, this seems like a great place to be! Anyone else from the Boston/New England area?

Hello and welcome. Interesting method for remembering other multiplication tables. Welcome to the early reader club, lol. My special interests include, but are not limited to, reptiles, longboarding, obsidian, and music. I don't live in the New England area, but I would LOVE to and go to the famous N.E.R.D. headquarters. They have some AMAZING ball pythons (among other animals)!

Howdy and Welcome to Wrong Planet :)

Since this is Aspie forum and I have a curiosity about everything how did knowing 7 x 8 help you with your multiplication tables?

Nice to meet you also :) This is a nice place to be and feel free to spend as much as you want here :)

Hard to explain, but I will attempt. For some reason, I memorized that 7x8=56. From there, I could say that 6x8=48 because I would simply subtract 8. For 8x8=64, I would simply add 8 to 56 and so on. It sounds silly, but it made sense in my head. I was always in the advanced math group when I was younger, but had a harder time with algebra and calculus and had to drop down from the top group in high school.

Doesn't sound silly at all. Sounds similar to what I would do. It was easier to recall a few of them and then do the math in my head. Like 12 * 10 = 120 what is 12 *12 = it would be 120 + 12 + 12 = 144. Lot easier than trying to memorize every single one on the table.

People may think how we do things is strange, but its what works for me so I will do that way :)
