Any ideas on whether Decompression in high functioning autism can be mistaken for other diagnosis such as Schizophrenia, Personality Disorder and such. I know that my son has depression caused by the social isolation and maybe has had depression even before these issues gradually started. Besides this I do not really understand what decompression in autism is. What happens before, during and after it. Thank you.

I've been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, mental retardation, and an attempt was made to diagnose me with Schizophrenia. All of this in spite of the fact that I graduated the U.S. Navy's Nuclear Field "A" school, hold an Associates Degree in electronics engineering, am an author, etc. The only official diagnosis that I agree with is Autism.

The only correlation I know of between decompression and autism involves decompression as treatment, not diagnosis.

Do you mean "decompensation"?

Some people have "burnout" or "breakdown" experiences, but I don't know how much professional recognition of that there is. All I can think of to refer you to off the top of my head is this:

Hell, it's not easy coping with a world where nothing goes according to plan; although all of the people we aspire to be like insist that it does.

Even diagnosis doesn't help: half the time our diagnosticians don't have the faintest idea what is actually going on. Depression is the minimal response.

I was lucky: my perennial mistrust of people in authority kept me away from diagnoses until, finally, I got a glimpse of the truth. Even then it took seven more years before they agreed on the diagnosis.

I mean, give us a break. We try, with all our might, to make the ideas fit together. For the most part, we get by. But it's never right.

Decompression? Are you referring to the use of a hyperbaric chamber? It is one method they are reseaching and,, from what little I've seen, it has seem to have beneficial in some autistic symptoms. Although, to be honest, I think optimum oxygen saturation in ANYONE'S brain is probably beneficial yet you are describing some setbacks as a result of decompression?

Definitely, an intruiging set of questions but i'm afriad we may need more clarity to really understand your situation.

Welcome aboard though! You can to the right place fro opinions and sometimes even answers.
