Hi, my name is Brett and I was diagnosed with Asperger's when I was a teenager. I am now 23 and a prolific musician/artist/writer who struggles with social situations, romantic relationships and keeping jobs. Right now I have a paid internship at an organization that deals with disabled individuals. I also have a job coach helping me out, so it isn't so frightening. Hopefully this will turn into a part-time or full time job and someday I won't need the job coach anymore.

Basically I'm here looking for new friends, connections and people who can help me understand myself. Although I'm diagnosed with asperger's I am able to give and take in a conversation, I make eye contact with people and I can control my flapping (although I do drum my hands and feet a lot since I have been a drummer since age 9). I am also afraid of driving and have not gotten my license yet despite urging from friends. I oftentimes feel I should be further along in life than I am, but hopefully this internship will lead to a job which will lead to a house or apartment and eventually I'll get my driver's license and be able to access better jobs. I also hope to have a girlfriend again someday (I had a relationship that lasted for 2 years.)

I was afraid of driving, too! I still am, to be honest. And I had to take my driver's test whilst it was pouring down rain.

I have tried to have relationships, but I hate talking about feelings/mushy gushy stuff, and I just feel so ... trapped.

Your internship sounds amazing. That's kind of my dream job. But I love math, too. So I decided to get an Associates in the Arts of Teaching.

I am from Albany NY. It's an OK city, but the music scene kinda sucks. It's all either hardcore/death metal or cover bands that play middle-of-the-road, mainstream music that everybody supposedly likes. But whatever, I just love being in a band as a drummer and making music. I don't care if I make it big or not. What do you like to do as a hobby?

I also rescue kittens; there's a momma cat (Betz) living under my mom's house, and every six months she has kittens.
