Hello , my fellow faceless friends i,m a middle aged man from essex UK , its good to be here , it has taken me a long time to admit that i am socialy crippled by AS and do something abouit it , and admit that i am not the norm , life has been a struggle trying to be normal , i feel a lot better just saying it , i can do the talk , but feel like an outsider all the time , i have a circle of friends that maybe understand ,(not that i have ever talked with them about AS) , but would like to maybe talk to other people that expeirience the same problems ,:( i have been sitting here for ages trying to put it into words , but WP has cut me of so this is the abridged version ,,,,,,,,,,

Hi Frankym66!

Welcome! - And dont be offended by the following...

- Does i relate to Your story...! I'm 44, and used most of my life, to try to fit in. But some 10 years ago, i just desided to be me.
And must say, for me it was quite a relieve, to have a diagnosis, as Aspie, on 4. mar.! Suddently it all made sence! And i knew i wasn't alone...

When it comes to long posts, i write them in a editor, and then copy/paste them.

And by the way. I dont see AS as something negative! - If it weren't for AS, i would'nt have had the ability to immerce in the things i work with!
So i really see AS as a give and take dx! - Low on social skills, but quite a lot better on my special "things"... ;)

So Why does You sound so negative? - Have'nt You had some good experiences, caused by Your special gifts? - Dont Your friends respect You as You are,
simply because You are You? - Because You have the qualities You have? Sorry if i sound rude! - But, i feel You have the need to see the positive side of You?! !

I hope theres a little of my ratteling, that You can use...! - Else give me a big earful!! ! - I might earned it... :D

Best regards

Welcome Frankym66,

Hmmm, sounds familiar :) I do not have a diagnosis or what I would consider "friends" really, not in the sense that NT ppl seem to have. I also have parallels with Hauge, I kinda like who I am...I certainly don't want to be anyone else!

I am relatively successful in the sense that I have a Wife and Son, who incidently has a diagnosis of...three guesses?

I suspect the the web is making a difference to ppl like us, I hope so, we didn't have this facility when I was growing up, I basically stuck to one friend at a time and avoiding group social activities. The only sense in which I feel my suspected AS has inhibited me is that I could've been more successful financially cos I've got no schmoozin skills! :D

My special skills are fishing, subvocalising during conversations and being a part time Vulcan ( in the logical sense, not into dressing up in Trekkie clothes tho', lol)

I have also discovered PS3 and Call of Duty. I wouldn't have seen the light of day if such things were available in the 80's :D Might not have met my Wife???? or Women lol.

Drop me a line if you feel so inclined.

Dave
