I came here because I am the founder of a non profit that helps children.

I won't post the non profit name because I am not here to plug my non profit I am here to learn.

What I will say is that the mission of the non profit is to help children with syndromes and illnesses.

Normally I send the child a Teddy Bear to a child to comfort them.

I am getting more and more parents asking for something for their child that has autism or aspergers.

When I sent a Teddy bear to a child with autism and she was scared of it it made me feel bad. The mother said she is warming up the bear and will walk by it and say hi to it.

I want to learn what I can have on hand that will peak a child's interest that has autism and/or aspergers.

That way I can have a stock of items for when a mother ask for something for her child with either one of these syndromes.

Any help you can give me would be appreciated in educating about these syndromes.

I have read the clinical views of the syndromes, now I want to hear the personal views that people are living everyday. This will help me help a parent when they come to our non profit for help.

Your request for guidance is wonderful. The answer, however, is not clear cut. Every child with autism or asperger's is different, so there won't be one answer. One child might love a teddy bear. Another might love a train (a la Thomas). Many have sensory issues, but they manifest is so many different ways, so some will love the soft cuddly stuffed animals and others will find them awful to touch.

Bottom line is, there are no real guidelines for what a child with autism or asperger's would like, Fears like you describe, of a teddy bear, are very specific to an individual child and are not representative of autism in general - although having unusual interests or negative reactions can be. The specific attractions or aversions can't be predicted.
