Hi,

I discovered this forum by accident when researching Asperger's Syndrome, it appears that my (late) father had the condition and thanks to his genes I and one of my children are similarly blessed. I'm in my 50s and lead a contented life with my NT husband and 3 kids. When we met, my husband decided I was 'unusual' and nicknamed me Miss Strangely Odd and Oddly Strange - but fell in love with me nevertheless!

Just so you recognise me: I'm the one either sitting in the corner or standing on the edge of the crowd, wearing too loose clothing and fitflops, no makeup, short 'wash it and leave it' hairstyle and allegedly looking no older than 35 (at least that's what the Swimming Pool Attendant pleaded when she ordered me to leave the over-50s swimming session). If I appear aloof, it's because for me smalltalk is akin to conversing in a foreign language in which I have minimal competency, and however happy and excited I am the emotion is rarely visible on my face.

Welcome to WrongPlanet

You're definately not the only one here who's been described as unusual ;)

Thank you for the welcome, I really appreciate it!

I've been wandering around the site, dipping into threads here and there, and the sense of relief is almost overwhelming. Until I met my husband (I was 39) my life was difficult/lonely/confusing/scary ... the list goes on and on ... compounded by having two NT sisters who breeze through life, an undiagnosed Aspie dad who lost interest when I was out of nappies and a mum who regarded me as a burden to be endured until I left home (which I did at the earliest opportunity). I now realize that not only am I not alone, but there are soooooo many people out there who wouldn't bat an eyelid if I took out one of my sparkly tinselly cocktail stick thingies and spun it in front of my eyes when I was feeling stressed (first time ever I've confessed to that one, not even my husband knows).

Hello and welcome. :D
That is a delightful nickname. There is no finer feeling than being accepted for what you are.
