Hi, I'm new today. Have been reading non-members' posts for some time. It's so good to find that I'm not strange after all. I am quite sure I have AS; I am socially inept, clumsy, always anxious but of high academic ability. I am a UK prep school teacher and am permanently teased (nicely) for my elephantlike memory and ability to organize and carry details in my head.

Hi Yoyo,

Same situation here - very much the same characteristics :-)

(I recall being confused by my preschool teacher telling me I had a memory like that of an elephant. I was pretty sure I was not an elephant. At some point I decided that as elephants are very big, a lot of memories must fit into them, which solved the issue for me).

Hi Yoyo,
I also read a lot but don't post much - prefer to be a fly on the wall.
Your posting struck a chord - not that I am musical - so welcome from another relative newcomer.

Hi, Donkey,
Thanks for your reply. I note you are from Ireland and that you are a vet. I was brought up (very unhappily and abusively) in Ireland and went to university there. Thanks about the Berkshire branch of NAS. I once emailed them and did not get a reply. How did your frend get in touch with them and what do they do for him?

Best wishes,

Yoyo

Thank you all for your welcome and replies. It is so much easier to communicate on a forum than in real life!

You're welcome!

I agree with what you said about communicating online. That is true.

Welcome on board!

I noticed that in one of your posts you mention "Alain."

Is that by any chance Jehan Ariste Alain? He was extraordinary in his talents & abilities. I especially like his organ work "Litanies." ... a masterpiece.

Blessings!

I won an organ playing competition playing Alain's Litanies; it is a fabulous piece.

Yoyo is the name of my previous dog. She was (we think) the most gorgeous dog that ever existed - a black and tan cavalier King Charles Spaniel who permanently smiled wagged her tail. Sadly, she died of cancer of the pancreas aged 13. Our current dog, same breed, is very full of himself with a personality too large for his size!
