Greetings
Hello. I thought I'd start posting here to garner daily perspectives from fellow Aspies, rant about problems, share positive experiences, propose solutions, et al.
Well, I was diagnosed as early as age five through a vaccination. As a result, my parents have moved numerous times throughout the years trying to find the right school for me that catered to my needs, while providing enough understanding for my academic rate. Things took a turn for the worst, however, as third and fourth grade were practically h-e-double l education wise. Unlike my balanced scenario in PA between "regular" classes, an occupational therapist, and a spec ed trainer that had experience but didn't quite understand me, resulting in the misguided move to DE, both the schoolboard and teachers had no grasp on the difference between autism and Asperger's, or even mental retardation, instead torturing me with pictures and other ways I can't recall to make me look stupid for simply being higher functioning than most anyone in the self contained class I was in all day. To give you a more illustrious idea of how backward that school system was, Junior High/Middle School started at 4th grade. My advantage, despite these otherwise unsavory circumstances was that I happened to be an otherwise happy camper, always willing to talk to friends inside or outside my realm about music, animated shows/movies, and typical child interests of that nature. After the middle of 4th grade, following some encounters with my mother and the head of the schoolboard, I moved once again.
Which culminated into one of the first truly difficult periods of my life, at age ten; my parents finally split for good, and though I would keep in contact with and visit my dad frequently, it was my mom and I alone, although this time moving under comforting guidelines: my grandmother's house, back in PA. I really wasn't so sure what was going on, as I continued to enjoy my social activities, at least, and have had tremendous fun activities with my father. I mean, I enjoyed visiting my Nana and love her with all my heart, but the idea of living with and taking care of the woman who left everything behind to nurture me as a small tyke, at ripe age didn't seem to gel well with me. I, regrettably, gave her a bad attitude when she was simply looking out for me on her chair. Long story short, I adapted to yet another change and met numerous great friends who I still correspond with to this present day. As with before and since, I would get my share of bullying, from both peers and teachers, but I helped maintain through and through, whether by making things better or worse.
Finally, I have found a consistent residence in MD ever since 7th grade, despite several changes in home. I am currently enrolling in a community college with absolutely no idea on what my major is going to be. I have had the privileges of my mom paying mostly everything for me academically, for entertainment/interests, and food/health from high school and before/beyond, plus the right "special" circumstances in middle/high school, and am trying to work on my lack of routine to become more independent, despite what I may have learned.
Sorry if I may have bored or confused anyone with that rollercoaster of a life cycle. Here is a little about myself: I may have Asperger's, but am different in that I have a wider range of emotions, which is a typical trait anyway, but I mean by being capable to feel emotions such as love and exploring my spiritual realm. Another stereotype I don't possess is expert gaming skills; although I consider video or board gaming a hobby, it's merely a casual one, especially nowadays. There are few games I have a passion for, and though I may like to explore some of the more complex ones, I simply lack the patience and functioning interest to carry on with the overwhelming state today, even as a friend may be able to help. I am more of a music and film type person, and hope to possibly excel in information courses pertaining to my interests in these fields one day. Although I try to have a positive outlook on life, I tend to sometimes have a low self esteem and think of myself as a case of wasted potential, if not indicated above. I like to exercise, although I'm slightly overweight at this moment and have come up with lame excuses to not at least walk or jog. I like to think I excel in most things academic, despite improvements needed in even the most basic subjects. Do I just take things too seriously, perhaps? I still enjoy talking to a certain amount of friends, even as I go through frequent withdrawal when out of school.
Overall, I'm a very self analytical/critical person, if you weren't able to tell, and I am willing to change these habits as these supplements help me. It's early in the morning, so if you want more of or a better explanation of me, I will post something later. I am currently nineteen and still going through some slight angst, introspection and whatnot. I need to write some songs or poems to reflect that, heh.
Thanks for all your patience, and I hope I am welcomed with open arms!
