Hello,

My name is Kevin Bridges. I'm an author, and I enjoy programming and game design. I live with my fiance and her (ours, now) three children, the middle of which has been diagnosed with autism.

I don't know if I have asperger's. I can say that I seem to, to myself, my fiance, and my future mother in law. Some test online said yes. I'd like to get a real diagnosis, but I'm afraid the doctor would try to push treatment on me. Does anyone else think I should expect this?

Regardless, I do feel comfortable in this forum, and am looking forward to getting to know a few of you.

-Kevin

You'll probably have to look for a while before you find a practitioner who's keen to diagnose you as an aspie. Don't give up, but don't be surprised if you find a succession of people who are happy to take your money and treat you as if you had something they're more familiar with.

welcome to WrongPlanet! some prfoessionals seem to go with the assumption that if you feel like you are an aspie... well, you probably are. not too many people *want* a label like that unless it really felt true.

i've never heard of a mental health professional pushing treatment on adult aspies as long as the aspie wasn't a danger to him/herself or others. just like with any other diagnosis.

Hyperlexian, thank you. That makes sense. I'm going to just try not to worry about it.
