8 year old out of control...please help!!
Hello Everyone.
Being new here I didn't know where to post this topic and seen some of the similar ones here. Im seeking advice or help with possible disorders.
My son is 8 years old and been seeing Doctors since the age of 3 when he was originally put on meds for ADHD/ADD combined type. It's been a consistant struggle with him over the years. Currently is what concerns me more then any other time. He's become violent and non compliant. To date he has been diagnosed with Severe ADHD/ADD combined type, ODD, Seperation and Social Anxiety and very high risk for Conduct Disorder.
He's been through all the testing possible to rule out possible diagnosis such as XYY syndrome finding no abnormalities, FAE and FAS with some qualities but not enough to diagnos, he's had MRI and EEG with nothing abnormal. OT assessment for sensory issues and it was found that there are a bit of sensory issues with recommended Therepy for that. Recently he's been cracking his ears to the point of bruising. He likes to crack his knuckles consistantly. He's also going to speech therepy for speech issues. He's a very brilliant little boy who at 3rd grade has a 6th grade reading level and is above average in almost all of his school work. Another thing that has been noticed since November 2010 is that he has subvocalization. He does it consistantly in familiar places and limited in unfamiliar places.
For the past 3-4 months he's started having "meltdowns". These melt downs consist hitting, kicking, biting, spitting cursing. He's tried jumping out of the car when in midst of a meltdown. He tends to be "flighty" when he has a meltdown and durning one he took off running and ran through 2 lanes of busy traffic and almost got hit by 3 cars. Come to find out that he blacked out during that meltdown. Another incident he had a meltdown and this is like one I have never ever seen the only way I can describe what I saw that evening is he was possessed. It took 2 adults to hold him down for over an hour so he didn't harm himself or others durning that meltdown. He also had blacked out durning that event and was admitted to the Psych Unit for a week period.
I am at a loss of words. I believe that my child has Aspergers but I can't get anyone to help me or give a diagnosis. The thing that's putting up a roadblock for us is that he doesn't have have meltdowns in front of the Drs for him to see so they dont believe me. He has had a small incident recently that showed the seperation anxiety and also there was a small meltdown at the Dr but it didn't explode like it normally does when he's home.
I would like some thoughts on what you guys think and if there is any home remedys that can be done to help redirect the meltdowns. At 8 years old I dont believe that I am going to be able to handle his strength much longer when he's attempting to hurt himself or other people.
