I am somewhat new here, well, technically, I am very new here. I have Asperger's and would like to talk to other Aspergers sufferers about their experiences, and hope to find a couple of internet friends, as I have few in real life.

My friend gave it to me a while back among several others - I like her sense of humour.

Hi Steel, I'm Mark. So tell us more about yourself. Are you a medical student? Are you any good at the piano? How much do you run? What is your first name? How old are you? Do you think I ask too many questions?

I think that I should have said that I am still in secondary school - I will be 17 this October. I enjoy medicine greatly and am hoping to become a forensic pathologist after university. I read an hour of medicine every morning - it is hard to stop myself from reading more!

MrMark wrote:

Grade 7, but not a natural - my mother coerced me into it and it took until grade 4 before I started actually enjoying it!

MrMark wrote:

I used to run 8 miles onces a week, but I had a very bad bout of the 'flu and lost 4kg as a result, so I have to regain it before I can start running again. I think I will be starting off with about 4 miles and then increase it bit by bit, but I don't think I'll reach 8 miles again - it takes too much out of me.

MrMark wrote:

I have had bad experiences on the internet and as a result, I do not give out my name on the internet. Sorry!

MrMark wrote:

I am 16.75 years old.

Perhaps - it did take me a while to copy and paste your questions into seperate quotes.

Welcome I am new here as well.

I have always been fascinated with forensics. Right now I am trying to complete my last few quarters of X-ray school. I plan on going straight into Nuclear Medicine.

During the last couple of quarters I have experienced some rough times relating to my AS. I guess I keep looking at the trees instead of the forest. Mom finally gave me the motivation I need to complete this program. The fact that I will not have insurance after October of this year really gives the motivation to work harder and make this work. I have a prediagnosed disorder called Polycystic Kidney Disease. Insurance companies don't want to write a new plan for me. Therefore in October I will end up being uninsured until I get a job where employees are on a group plan. I hope this knowledge will help to get me through the end of the program.

Okay enough about my rambling. Unfortunately I have a habit of going on about things some people are not interested in. Sorry if this bores anyone.

You're not boring me, so don't worry! I have a similar tendency too. I'm glad that you've found the motivation to keep going - its something that can be hard to come by. Nuclear medicine sounds fascinating - how is the X-ray school going?

X-ray school for me right now is a struggle. In the academics I am doing fine. Right know we are going over pathology of the respiratory system and digital radiography. I was proud of myself to only get one question wrong on the last test of digital radiography.

The area I'm having problems are at clinical. I am not one who is able to express myself or be assertive. This results in evaluations where techs say I don't show enthusaism and initiative. At the current clinical facility some of the techs are giving me more feedback than the last facility. One of my evaluations stated that I don't know my views even after I have gotten a competency completed. Eventhough I know my views or positions, I am just think aloud. What results is that techs sometimes think I am don't know what I am doing.

The other major problem is communicating with people. I find it hard to explain to the patient what I need them to do. I have tried to compensate by showing the patient what I need them to do. However if I need to center him or her up better I have difficulty expressing what I need him or her to do. What makes it even more difficult is some patients just say put me where you need me. Sometimes you don't know if the patient will be offended if you move him or her around.

I am trying to improve my communication skills right now. Mom and dad are really helping me with that. My confidence in myself and the fact that I can be a good tech is coming slowly. Otherwise I would say x-ray school is interesting. You do begin to wonder about some of the people you see.

I can relate to the inability to express yourself. Showing the person what you want physically is a good idea, and I often find drawing diagrams or using my fingers as little people to show the person what I mean. Did you have to take some sort of admissions test to get into medical school? If so, what is it like? I hear that it might be hard for me due to the AS, but I am still determined.

Communication skills are very, very important. I have opened up to people more, except I still don't trust people of the opposite sex, which is trouble because my doctor is male. :S

In order to start the Radiology Technology program I didn't have to pass any enterance exam. I did however have to take some preoccupational courses before I could even be on the waiting list.

Sorry about that last post being so short.

I just finished a long day at clinical. Yesterday was a much better clinical day for me. I was better about communicating with the patients. However there was one patient how could hear very well. I don't like to talk too loud since it makes me feel like I am yelling at the patient, which is not the impression I want to give. Fortunately another tech was able to take care of it.

In order to be a radiologic technologist you have to attend a two or four year college at an acredited school. Upon completion of the program you are ready to take the national registry for the AART. If you want to be a radiologist you would need to attend medical school. Reading x-rays and diagnosing what is wrong with the patient is not my cup of tea.

At the moment my cat is relaxing after trying to tell me he wanted to go into the garage. I wasn't sure of the reason why until I heard the sound of a cricket. The hunter instinct must have flared up in my cat. He really does help me get through the day. I never feel alone when I am in the basement of our house, because he usually follows me where I go. If I decided to curl up and read a book in my bed, he decided to hop up on the bed with me. He is a very sweet cat. Okay enough about him.

Techologist sounds better in terms of the science involved, just like forensic pathology is better for me because I don't have to spend time trying to treat people and act... normally... towards them. Forensic pathology deals with the dead, and to be honest, I get along better with the dead than with the alive!

I will have to take the UCAT exam, which involves analysing quotes :S.

Your cat sounds like a dear - the cat that comes to my house is very antisocial, except when he wants food. Hopefully when I move out and I get a place of my own (when I go to university), I will get a kitten and make sure that it bonds with me well. I don't like having too many people in my house - luckily I am an only child and my father works a lot, so I don't have to deal with that problem. I prefer the company of one person or of an animal. That's enough for me.

I have the problem that I talk quite quietly, because I wear earplugs and if I talk too loudly I can hear my own voice booming inside my head.

You are a very interesting person. I would love to keep contact via e-mail.
