I am 39, female, married 17 years to an Aspie,
I have Tourette's and OCD.
We have four children
2 are NT
2 are not
We have always known I had Tourette's but my husband was only diagnosed with Asperger's after we had children. We clicked instantly and everyone thought we were both crazy and wouldn't last.
Hmm, we've always done okay. We have no friends but each other and we have never felt the need for others. Our children are wanting friends and so we sought counseling because we have no idea how you make friends. She referred us to wrong planet. They are both in an Asperger's social group.
My husband is in the military. He has always done really well with the structure but is finding more trouble now that the push is more management related as he goes up rank. He is amazing, so smart, and so naive and under appreciated in my opinion.
We watch out for each other. We love each other. We love our family. The world, on the other hand, is a little hard to navigate. My youngest daughter, however, is NT and four years old and she has friends call her on the phone from preschool for playdates. I find it interesting that she is so comfortable with being social and loves talking to people and does well at it. It has to be instinctual to some degree.
