I found this page while browsing and it cued me to introduce myself. I consider myself to be generally NT with some personality traits that are similar to Asperger's. I work in the DD field running a group home for young men transitioning out of children's services into adult DD services. I found this website while looking for info and resources for one of my men who has an Asperger's diagnosis. He has moved into a supported living situation on his way out of the system and has since become a friend. As the manager of my home I've been trying to develop tools and resources for my guys to get out of the group home and into more independent and respectful living situations. Wrong Planet has been a great resource for links and information in my job. Having some similar traits I have found some really good advice that has helped me personally as well.
On the personal level I am 35 years old, male, gay, an atheist (I don't passionately disbelieve I just find belief irrelevant), vegan, and bluntly honest. I do struggle with being diplomatic and miss some social cues. If I come across as rude or a "know it all" please tell me. This has come up a couple times at work so I'm trying to figure out how to not do that.
I like robots especially wind up ones. I have currently started collecting wind up toys especially the ones where you can see the working parts like the critter collection from Kikkerland. I also enjoy magnets and magnetism generally. I have a great deal of love for Superheroes and will play City of Heroes for hours sometimes playing everyday after work until bedtime.
I live in Portland, OR and if you have any questions about resources in this area I can most likely answer your question or point you in the direction of someone who can.
I'm pretty shy at first so if I seem awkward or odd when replying to something it really isn't you I'm just struggling. I'm pretty good with formal conversation at work and stuff but I'm less successful with less structured personal interactions with people I haven't gotten to know yet. So I'm aware I can come across as stilted and formal sometimes.
