I was diagnosed with Aspergers only very recently. I always felt there was something wrong with me, but couldn't put my finger on it. I have a hard time interacting with people. I've finished college (English degree, for what that's worth) and do have a job, but not a very good one.

I'm really hoping to make some friends here, as I feel like I don't have anyone to talk to.

Welcome to WrongPlanet, WhoKnowsWhy!

I felt (and still feel sometimes) like what you wrote in the title myself, so you are not alone in that sense.
Hope you enjoy your stay here :)

Welcome!

Its not unusual to feel a little down shortly after being diagnosed.

On one hand, its cool to understand why you've always felt different than everybody else, to finally have a name for it and be able to read about it and realize there are lots of others just like you.

On the other hand, it can be a kind of depressing to realize its because of a neurological handicap that will never go away.

In the end, though, you're essentially the same person you've always been, so you kinda have to just shrug and get on with life. I don't really mind being different so much, I look around at all the other so-called 'normal' types and I'm glad I'm not like them. Most of them are pretty stupid.

I agree, but unfortunately, those dumb NT's make the rules. :x

We also have the power to act around those rules :D. Set an example in a way, or maybe make a change.

I like this a lot, Avengilante. I'm not professionally diagnosed, but to realize how I am fits this mold so perfectly, was actually kind of relieving. It's nice to have a name for why I just can't act like a normal person - and then I realize normal is kind of boring, and it kind of sucks too. I can't imagine what it would be like to go through life like everybody else. And you're right, you are the same person you were before, and it doesn't really change anything - I think maybe what we can hope for is finding ways to cope or skills to use to make things easier. And we get communities like this out of the deal, too.

....It does feel like they're kind of stupid, doesn't it....NOT all of them, but...I've had the misfortune of working in retail, and now I work in banking, and it's like...my God, people, haha.

Anyway, welcome WhoKnowsWhy! I hope this community helps you, and I have no doubt you'll make friends.

Don't worry about it, there's lots of us lonely people here, OK? :)

Is there anyone you might meet with so that you might feel a bit less alone, perhaps?

In any case, look after yourself and welcome!

I've started going to an AS support group, but I feel like I'm higher-functioning than any of them. I really hate to sound snobbish or trivialize their condition, but unlike them, I've finished college, hold a job (even if it's a crappy one), and can drive a car. It's hard for them to relate to me or vice-versa.

On the other hand, I feel too low-functioning to fit in with NT's :( I'm in the murky middle, so to speak.
