I fit the criteria for aspergers, and every single online test I could find from Facebook ones to more professional ones says I have it, many people from yahoo support group for people with aspergers says that it is very likely that I have it, and even my parents have implied to me that they think I may have it, but I have not bee diagnosed yet. and I am afraid to. I hate being a burden to someone and I also hate people thinking that I am hypochondriac because I believe I have it. But I am not doing well in school, and it is very hard for me to concentrate on work and even things I enjoy doing because I have to keep switching around because I get board of something quickly, but at the same time I can spend several hours (5+) doing something I love without stopping.

I don't know what to do, I don't have a doctor that I go to, and I am afraid of being treated as a slow person (because people now just treat me as lazy, and I am not lazy! I cannot do nothing!), and I am afraid of being a burden... but at the same time I am afraid that I wont be able to live out my life's dreams due to my fear of a diagnosis and knowing exactly why I am who I am and why I act differently than everyone else, and why it is hard for me to do things...

what can I do? I am 19 years old, and I plan on living with my parents until I go off to college, but I dont want to fail college either...

what do i do?

Welcome to WrongPlanet!

If you know yourself well enough, you may not even need a diagnosis - many people here don't.
Hope you enjoy your stay here :)

It might actually be in your best interest to get diagnosed or at least start seeing a professional. They can help figure out what's going on with you, whether it's Asperger's or not, and help you learn how to function in an NT world. A diagnosis doesn't have to hold you back. It's not as if once you're diagnosed you'll be wearing a sign around your neck!

I'm in my senior year in college and these last few semesters have been difficult for me, for various reasons. I'm pursuing diagnosis myself right now and if I'm diagnosed it's something that I wish I could have figured out sooner! Most universities and professors can make arrangements for people on the autistic spectrum.

Are you afraid to get started in that direction because you're still dependent on your parents? Since you're of age, and if you know what insurance you have, you should be able to make a consultation appointment without your parents' consent.

hi

yes you could be aspie

from reading your post you appear to be quite anxious and worried. this is normal.
however after a certain point anxiety will affect your health

when i look at my life i ask myself one question. would i prefer to be aspie, a condition which will not worsen, or pray to god to roll the dice and give me another illness.

would i end up with diabetes, lose one of my senses, become bedridden, have a shorter life expectancy, or have an illness which worsens over time.

i am quite content with being aspie over these other ailments. i do not pray to god for a different illness. i am quite positive that people with other illnesses would desire aspie over their other illness if given the choice.

i do require treatment for anxiety which is common for aspies,
anxiety also requires treatment for ppl who are not aspie.

i did encounter difficulty at university due to anxiety and such.

looking back on my life i wish i had requested treatment/therapy at 19 for this area. my life may have been more bearable.

i suggest you see a therapist to discuss you concerns and see if they are of any assistance. they may say you are fine or may suggest some areas to work on. you can take their suggestions and go from there.

You must ask an expert. You may be more ADHD than Asp. I wonder if Hans Asperger would be happy we use his name like this !
Good Luck ! and you're not alone ! !
