Hello everyone,

I thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Sas, and I'm 30. I was diagnosed 3 years ago with AS. My daughter is 11 and she was diagnosed with AS in 2007.

I am currently working as a special education teacher in a special school in Melbourne. They don't know about my diagnosis, although after 6 months I am struggling to hide some of my traits so some of them may suspect. I do fairly well for the most part, but I am heading for a massive meltdown and am having more difficulty containing things, and also processing incoming information in all forms.

I have a large class of 11 students. Four are officially on the spectrum, with a fifth undiagnosed (but I'll push for a diagnosis for next year).

Over Christmas last year we moved to Melbourne from QLD. I have no support here, no respite, no friends. It suits me well to not know anyone other than family who live over the other side of town. My daughter is a social Aspie though and struggles to be happy here.

Oh, that sounds really hard. (((Hugs))))

In Australia, do you feel it is necessary to hide your dx? I know in Canada we have employment protection for people with disabilities, so I don't think it would affect your ability to keep a job, and it could mean that they would legally have to put in some accomodations.
