Hello,
I do not have Aspergers I'm a neuro typical. I am also a trainee clinical psychologist in London and have worked with people with autism for about eight years on and off. I have worked as a home tutor to children, as a class assistant in schools and more recently I carried out a needs assessment for people with Asperger syndrome for the NHS in East London.
Now my research (which is part of my doctorate) is looking at the experience of anxiety for people with AS. I think it is important that we find ways to better supprt people with anxiety.
I have joined this website to try and better understand and get to know the online Asperger community. It seems that this is a very important place to many people. I would also like people to help me with my research but am aware that adverts for such things are not always appreciated.
Perhaps you could tell me how you feel about neurotypical researchers using forums such as this to find participants for their research.
This is a great site and I 'm enjoying being part of it.

First of all, I feel compelled to say I'm impressed with your introduction. Very nice.
Second, neurotypical is one word.
Third, I think as far as anxiety goes, the best place to start with is a school. If you start a thread about expriences with bullying, you'll see what I mean. It's hard to explain. I agree with you about the support.
Fourth, going on a website where the majority of posters are aspies (affenctionate nickname for those of us with asperger's - currently under debate as to whether it should be used in the same way as the ' n word', I believe) is a good idea for finding out about Asperger's.
Altough, you may wish to consider the fact that despite the appearance this website projects, us aspies are a minority.
Could you be more specific regarding your research?
Yes, this is a very important place to me. I assure you, if the goverment ever decided to scrap it, I would open a word document and start writing a letter of protest. I know it's not goverment run, I was just trying to think of some suitable imagery.
As to how I feel about neurotypicals using it for their research, it really depends on how you go about it. However, I commend you for seeking information from aspies themselves instead of all this let's-ask-everyone-that-
*thinks*-they-know-instead-of-the-people-who-actually-know
****.
Indeed, it is a great website. I can see why you would enjoy it.
Welcome to Wrong Planet!
Also, you may find it interesting and perhaps benefical to your research to start a topic that is generally considered 'heated' in the religon/philsophy/politics forums and watch the WPers discuss it.
Once again, welcome to Wrong planet.
Sorry if that was a long post.
