Actually, according to one of the newsweek articles from about 2 years ago, Minnesota ranked with California and Oregon as to the per capita of persons with ASDs in the state. MN is the tech center of the upper midwest (especially the Twin Cities but even MS has a tech lab in the Fargo-Moorhead area and IBM has a major facility in Rochester) so I think the problem is similar to that of Silicon Valley.
There are some differences though and one of the biggest difference is that the parents do not have as much control of the support systems/groups in MN as in other states so the adults have a better chance of being heard. MN also has that Midwest tendency to solve its own problems rather scream to others about them so I think you do not hear much about ASDs being a problem in MN in the national news as you may hear from other states.
Then again, all my hypothesis may be wrong and I am a stupid dumb #$$.
