I haven't been diagnosed personally. One of my obsessions has always been understanding the way I think though, so when I read about aspergers I knew instantly that it fitted me.

I'm not sure whether I'd have preferred to get diagnosed so young~ not knowing forced me to fit in even If I didn't feel I fit in. It forced me to function well in society, even if I didn't really think I belonged.

More importantly, I never had medication of any type, which I'm very grateful for. I'm actually going to the doctor tomorrow to begin the process of getting a diagnosis. If any1 tries to get me on meds at any point, I'll tell them to kiss my ass.

Sometimes medication can be a good thing. If a condition is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain, than meds can be crucial for normal function.

When I was about 20, I was fairly suicidal. I got through that out of pure stubborness , reasoned to myself that it was chemical imbalances in my brain and there was no way I was going to let hormones cheat me out of my life.

Logic and a nice dose of stubborness can easily replace the meds if you want. Self control is what I personally needed, not meds.

Welcome to WrongPlanet.net . Thank you for adding that you are on a medication. It would be interesting to hear how that has helped you with your condition. Many aspie's (including me) seem to have a lot of anxiety. Although there is no drug for Asperger's, medication, such as Prozac, can help the anxiety that is associated with it. Some of us are concerned about the possible side effects, however.
