Hey people. I'm new here. My name's Allen, and I'm 20/m (21 on Oct 11! Score!). I'm a college student in New York City, originally from Birmingham, AL. I'm considering transferring to somewhere closer to home, because the people here are pretty much superficial, stupid, etc., and I think I'd do better close to more people I trust. My AS history is that I am recently discovered... needless to say it's been quite a mind**** (is cursing allowed here?). I started learning about it when I was looking up possible causes for my mom's total insanity (totally OCD, way overprotective, complete lack of social understanding, talks way way too much, etc.) My therapist doesn't typically diagnose AS but said she would tend to agree with my self-diagnosis. It explains a lot. I have never considered myself socially "off," however, I have struggled and struggled and struggled to make and keep friends! No one can live up to my standards, and no one can handle my intensity (verbally, intellectually, analytically, etc.). I have always been way out there on the IQ spectrum. I wouldn't be so blunt but I know this is a place where I can be - but I pretty much consider myself the smartest guy I know, and that is having known a whole lot of people most would consider brilliant. However, my hubris has it's limits, and I'm sure there here there are others like me who can challenge me. Part of it is intelligence, and another part of it is attitude... Most people I know just don't have the dedication, passion, etc., to become true experts at anything, much less many things like many of us are. I am actually not the smartest person in the world on any particular topic, but I have a huge array of interests - music is a big one (my biggest project right now is developing perfect pitch, which CAN be developed because I have seen huge progress already, and I'd love to discuss this kind of thing with anyone, to exchange tips or just talk about it because it's interesting), sports (college football, distance running/track, hockey), film, writing, philosophy, psychology, LSD/cannabis, spirtuality, good literature, horror, humor (usually very bizarre/extreme humor), and, oh yeah, SEX! I am lucky because my obsessive nature has led me to be a real overachiever up to this point in my life. My first real obsession was the video game Mortal Kombat, which came out when I was 6. I lived for that game, and became, I imagine, one of the best players in the country. I only played one person who could beat me 50/50, some random guy in an arcade in Houston, Texas, when we went to my cousin's wedding. In Birmingham, I won a big MK tournament full of 15-30 year olds when I was 7, which awarded me with a trophy that to this day is by far the biggest I've ever won. I have gone through many obsessions since then, and many have been fruitful (we won the state cross country title my senior year, which was one of the best days of my life). My academic interests gained me admittance to Columbia U among others (I realize now I should've gone to MIT, more aspies I'm sure, but oh well), and that's where I am now... unfortunately, I thought that I would meet many people like me, but I didn't realize how truly "different" I am. I am thrilled to find this forum, because as soon as I started reading some of the more effusive posts, I found that familiar tone of pure logic and clarity that made me feel right at home Past obsessions include also include fantasy novals and the Final Fantasy series (the latter I still have a major soft spot for, especically 4-8 - 9 was disappointing, 10 blew!). I'd love to chat with anyone on AIM or whatever, and I can't wait to hear everything you guys have to say all over these boards. It will be great to get some non-NT insight for once.
Peace.
Peace.
You went to a wedding in Houston? I'm from Houston!
Tim

I thought of a few more things to add that will give you a better idea of what I'm into:
I am currently listen to The Beatles through my killer Shure canalphones. I have listened to The Beatles probably more than any other activity over the past six months, other than maybe play guitar or keyboard or read stuff online. I consider The Beatles to be one of the most powerful forces of the 20th century (not just in music, but in general). They were visionaries who were tapping into some sort of higher power, there is no other way to explain the amazingly pure beauty of their music. My other favorites are Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Stones, Hendrix, and some classical. My favorite movie are Kubrick films (I possibly would not have discovered my AS if not for reading about his supposed symptoms) and a bunch of random things that have punched me in the gut (Pulp Fiction, Straw Dogs, Carrie - for more light-hearted stuff, I like Woody Allen, Some Like It Hot, Meet the Parents, etc.) I am a huge Alabama football fan. I like other teams, but that can change depending on the year. I think OSU will probably win the title this year, but it's a really weak year. Last year's Rose Bowl was so amazing! We will be talking about that one for a long time. Ok, that's enough for now
