Hey,

I'm Scotty. I've been around for a minute, but never introduced myself. You may have seen my column on the homepage here.

I struggled with undiagnosed autism for nearly 25 years. My diagnosis has enabled me to embrace my individuality and move forward. I now write and speak publicly about my life with autism, hoping to inspire greater understanding and acceptance. I'm currently writing a book for Autism Asperger Publishing Company. John Elder Robison (Look Me In The Eye, Be Different: Adventures of a Free Range Aspergian) will be writing the introduction. Alex said he would write one too.

I don't have a lot of autistic friends (Alex was the first I ever met in real life. He's a cool guy). I'd like to know more of you!

It has been weird to find out that there were others like me - I thought I was the only one! You can connect with me here or through my Facebook fan page (linked in my signature).

Thanks! I'm glad you're not a sociopath. I HATE it when people call me that. I think it is about thebmost upsetting thing anyone could say to me.

Hi there Scotty,

Greetings from the UK !

I have something in common with you - I struggled for a long time ( in my 40s now) only finding out that I have dyslexia this year - now I feel a lot more hopeful about the future knowing this.

Maybe the assessment I'm going to get will confirm that I'm also on the spectrum - from an objective viewpoint? I believe and I know that I am - maybe thats all that matters as I keep reading other people's experiences on this forum and it is uncannily similar .. . .. . !

Thanks for all the hard work you are doing to educate people about autism etc...

 Shubunkin

Thanks guys! I have trouble comprehending and processing emotions, which can make me come off as flat and uncaring. This is NOT the case, but it has led people to call me a sociopath, when I'm actually probably too emotional. I obsess over things and can't get over having my feelings hurt or hurting someone else's feelings.
