Hello. My name is Brian. I've lurked here off and on for years, but never posted. Sometimes communicating online can be just as awkward as IRL.

I was diagnosed with asperger's when I was in elementary school, but at that time (in the early 80s) they called it little professor syndrome. Such awful names. I've tried to get a more current dx a few times and have been told more than once that if I were really a high functioning autistic, I ought to be a super successful doctor or engineer. :roll: I have always had a very hard time staying at a job for more than a year and I absolutely hated every single excruciating second of school.

I've mostly gotten through life by doing imitations of NT behavior. The same way birds or dogs are fascinated by mirrors, NTs enjoy seeing their emotional state repeated back at them. They like it a lot if you can get it right. But that only works to my benefit until they decide they like me and want to reciprocate. It never goes well and I find that the older I get, the less energy and patience I have for this game.

Anyway, better quit before I start ranting Hello Wrong Planet.

I have the same feeling about work and school, especially if it is taxing. Hope you enjoy your stay here, though!
