Hello from British Columbia, Canada everyone,

I'm a female NT, age 50, (who, by the way, has Dx Social Phobia). Have only recently heard the words 'Asperger's Syndrome'. When I read about the symptoms & behaviours a huge puzzle fell together for our family. All of a sudden we realized that our daughter who is now in her 20's, is in the AS spectrum! It all makes sense now!

We can now see that there are quite a few people in our family who may have AS. I'm reading everything I can get my hands on about this interesting topic - can't wait for Tony Attwood's latest book, The complete guide to AS, to come out.

My question to all of you is regarding 'denial'. Do you know anyone who went into denial when they were diagnosed? Did they eventually come around?

Thankyou,
latebloomer

Yeah I labeled myself Social Phobic to. But as you may have read about phobia's
you expose yourself to the fear producing situation and you reduce the fear. But I
guess you have found out like me that its not just social fear. We have problems
with social commications and that just re-enforces social fear.

I also found SSRI greatly reduce social fear but at the same time they do not improve
social skills. I'm not really worried about it. But it does explain why social phobia treatments (excluding social skills training) is not very usefull for someone with
ASD.

You should make this a new topic in members only.

I'll give my answer there. :D
