I am a man who lives in Connecticut USA, I am 24 and I found out I had Aspergers back in August after years of soul searching if you will. Life has been difficult with Aspergers and I bottomed out in 2010 when I had a nervous breakdown and temporarily walked away from a group of people I was with because I felt I was being ignored by them.

I told someone about what happened and she got me into therapy, the first therapist was mostly about dealing with anxiety but really didn't get to the real problem until a year after I started. She suggested to try dating sites, met one person on it, thought was going well but only to end a month in all over a misunderstanding. Making friends is the real problem I face, girls and women don't see me for who I am especially if I wanted to get into a relationship. I've never had a girlfriend because I have a fear of asking someone out.

I basically have no friends except for this one person I know who also has Aspergers too. I don't know how to establish friendships like regular people can, been a real struggle to say the least.

I hope to be able to make some new friends with Aspergers on here because they seem to understand each other better and that should help me in finding people to talk to.

Nice to meet you all.

Thanks guys, its good to find a community like this since other places aren't as welcoming to someone with Aspergers. I want to find new friends that I can at least relate to, that should help me a lot.

Hey MacGuyver! I'm on here at least in part to make friends as well, so pleased to make your acquaintance. I've been in therapy for severe anxiety/PTSD myself. In my case at least, i get more discomfort from it than the Asperger's(although it seems aside from the PTSD part that the former comes from the latter).

I also know what it's like to lose an entire group of friends in nearly one go. It is a lousy thing to experience, to put it mildly.

The good thing about bottoming out though, I hear, is there's nowhere to go but up from there.

Thank you, i'm in therapy myself learning how to deal with aspergers because I never even knew I had it until this year. No one was able to give me a clear answer in the 90's when I was in school and there were misunderstandings everywhere.

I'm trying to make my way up there one day at a time.
